About the Award…

The Moles, a fraternal organization of the heavy construction industry, is the most prestigious organization of its kind in the world.  Moles members are leaders in their profession who are dedicated to promoting the industry and supporting their colleagues through outreach programs and networking opportunities.

The Moles’ Awards were instituted in 1941 as “a means by which the organization signalizes the honor it pays to outstanding ability and accomplishment in the heavy construction field. Two Awards are voted each year – one to a non-member and one to a member. Through the years the presentations of the Bronze Plaque and the hand-illuminated parchment have, we feel, well served a two-fold purpose: to encourage noteworthy achievements, and to reward them with fitting symbols of what the honorees already have won – that most cherished of all prizes, the admiration and esteem of fellow-workers.”

Despite the  heavy snow that had blanketed New York City during Snowmageddon 2016 just two days before, city streets were cleared in time for the Moretrench family, friends and industry colleagues to gather on January 26th to celebrate President Art Corwin’s Moles Member of the Year award for outstanding achievement in construction.  The traditional pre-award dinner, hosted by Moretrench, was held at Guastavino’s at the 59th Street Bridge. The award ceremony itself took place the following day at the annual Moles Awards Dinner held at the New York Hilton.

Over 200 invited guests, some travelling considerable distances, were on hand  at Guastavino’s to offer their congratulations  to Art and enjoy  first-class food and stunning ambience.  Former Moretrench Executive Vice President Joe McCann, who  introduced Art to the assembly, noted that  the award “…enjoys the distinction in the industry comparable to that of a Pulitzer Prize in literature or Journalism.”  He also touched on Art’s many accomplishments over the course of his career and his impact on industry colleagues and company employees alike.  Please join with Joe and all of Moretrench in congratulating Art on this singular honor.
