Derek Maishman, P.EThe Moretrench family regrets to announce the passing of ground freezing specialist Derek Maishman, P.E., on September 17, 2017.  He was 88 years old. Derek  came to  Moretrench  in  1976  following  a  distinguished  career  with UK-based Forakay, Ltd, where he ultimately served as  Chief  Engineer with responsibility  for  all  of  the  company’s  ground  freezing  operations in  the UK,  USA  and  Canada.  At Moretrench, he was instrumental in establishing the company’s  freezeWall  subsidiary,  since merged  with the parent organization, and providing the technical expertise and experienced-based insight that formed  the  cornerstone  of  our  present day operations.

Over the course of his career with Moretrench, Derek  was responsible for the design and implementation  of many notable projects in challenging subsurface conditions and shared his experience with the underground construction community through published papers, conference and seminar presentations, and as a contributing author to authoritative books.  Although he retired from full-time employment in 1997, he continued  to serve as a consultant to Moretrench into his 80s.

“Derek’s wealth of knowledge was critical to Moretrench’s early success in the ground freezing arena. He essentially laid the foundation for our work.  It is a tribute to his considerable early contributions that we continue to be a leader in this field.  Our condolences go out to his wife Enid at this difficult time.”
