Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD) held its biannual Advisory Council Dinner and Recognitions on May 17th, 2018, where Moretrench Shop Manager, Craig Sofio, was named “2017 Business Partner of the Year.”
Moretrench is extremely proud of the partnership it has developed with MCVSD. Through Sofio’s membership of the organization’s Share Time Advisory Council, Moretrench has been able to provide Industry knowledge to assist in the development of the curriculum for construction-related tracks (i.e. carpentry, electrical trades, and welding technologies).
“Working with the Vo-Tech students is the highlight of my year every year,” says Sofio. As a graduate of MCVSD, it has been a rewarding experience for him as he gives back to the community by serving as both, an advisor and advocate.
This past year Moretrench extended the opportunity for students to interview for part-time positions. A seminar was conducted to inform students about the company and its services, which was attended by approximately one hundred students across programs. All interested students were then welcomed back for a tour of Moretrench to get a closer look at the shop and learn more about its operations. Finally, one-on-one interviews were held at Moretrench’s main office in Rockaway, NJ.
Three students – two electrical students and one carpentry student – were each hired for part-time positions as they continued to attend their mandatory Share Time Program courses. A few months following graduation, Moretrench sponsored one of the part-time students for the New York City Dock Builders Union and he is currently working for Moretrench as a dock builder full-time.
Moretrench looks forward to strengthening this existing partnership, as well as the future opportunities it will bring to further support the local community.
